In What You Don't Know (Lulu Wang), Lulu Wang writes about a time when her family lied to her grandmother. They were skeptical at first, but they made a decision to lie at her after that. In this blog post, I want to discuss my opinion regarding this decision and talk about a situation of mine where I made an important choice to tell someone a difficult truth or you made an important choice to tell a lie that had a major impact on me and/or someone else.

The story My Name is Margaret (Maya Angelou) talks about a black woman whose name is Margaret Maya Angelou, who worked as a kitchen worker for a plumped woman called Mrs. Viola Cuillnan, a daughter of wealthy family. The story narrates some events that took place at Mrs. Cuillnan house with Margaret during her work time, where Margaret were oppressed by Mrs. Cuillnan and her women friends, so that Margaret was filled with anger and broke a casserole dish and two green glass cups.In this blog post, I am going to respond to the story and talk about my choice of either resist or not resist oppression, challenge the status quo, or refuse to obey an authority figure.
Argument: Did you agree with Margaret's choice to break the casserole dish and two green glass cups? I don’t agree with Margaret's choice to break the casserole dish and two green glass cups. Margaret was right about Mrs. Guillnan that she treated her badly, even when she asked her “Why, you were a debutante”. But Margaret choice to break the dish and the glass cups wasn’t the right choice, since what made her do that isn’t an excuse. Off course Margaret would have get angry because what Mrs. Cuillnan’s friends spoke, when one of them said “Is she dumb?”, and when Mrs. Guillnan said about her “as a little mouse”. But what made Margaret decide to quit the job is when Mrs. Guillnan called her Mary and made it her name, without Margaret accepting that. Margaret was able to find another way to get rid of the job, like treating Mrs. Guillnan the same way she was treating her, as if she wasn’t working for her. But what Margaret did is immoral because it hurt Mrs. Guillnan when she broke her favorite pieces of glass. Narrative: When have you made an important choice to either resist or not resist oppression, challenge the status quo, or refuse to obey an authority figure? Two years back, I went through a very hard time in my life. I had a job and was in the high school back then. I had many responsibilities to carry by my own, while my time was full through the whole week. I wasn't able to take enough rest during each day. I became so tired pessimistic with what I had. In addition to problems with my parents and my boss at work. i decided to quiet all of what I am doing and just feel free. But I was thinking continuously about the consequences if I quit of my job and education. May be I wasn't so dedicated to what I was doing and feel good about it , so that I started feeling in discomfort of about my situation. After deep thinking, I made my choice to continue what I was doing and challenge myself to do the best I can and work hard as if I am doing my hobby. And that really worked. It is all about dedication and better look towards what you are doing. |
